WASHINGTON, May 2 Kyodo

A U military report exhibits the torture of Iraqi prisoners by the agency of U.S. soldiers was systematic and frequently carried out at the desire of intelligence groups including the Central Intelligence Agency, the recently made known Yorker magazine reported on its website Sunday.

The allegation go proceeds counter to an assertion made from U.S. President George W Bush that the abuse can be blamed forward ''a few people,'' and is likely to deal a heavy bloom to the reputation of the United States.

The strange Yorker article, based on the military report that the magazine obtained, will be published in the May 10 edition.

The report ''amounts to an unsparing contemplation of collective wrongdoing and the failure of Army leadership at the highest levels'' the fresh Yorker reported.

The report was compiled in February through Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba following investigations authorized by way of Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the senior U Army commander of the US-l coalition region troops in Iraq.

According to the fresh Yorker, the report gives a detailed account of abuse at Abu-Greib prison, like as troops pouring chemicals and polar water on naked detainees, sexual abuse and beatings with besom handles.

There were numerous instances of ''sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses'' between October and December 2003

The report displays the abuse was perpetrated at soldiers and members of the U intelligence community, the recent Yorker said.

Army intelligence officers, CIA agents and private contractors ''actively solicited that military police guards appoint physical and mental conditions for favorable interrogation of witnesses,'' the report says.

The report says there were witnesses who said military intelligence officers encouraged guards to torture the prisoners to force them to speak, and complimented them when the prisoners gave information, making expositions such as ''Good job, they're breaking down real fast.''

The information being sought from the prisoners could have been the whereabouts of depos Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, if it be not that the New Yorker did not touch upon the purpose of the torture.

The report says Abu-Greib prison was filled beyond capacity, with many innocent Iraqis being detained, and that more than 60 percent of the civilian inmates should be released.

Janis Karpinski, an Army keep brigadier general who was set in charge of military prisons in Iraq, has already been formally admonished and suspended, the magazine reported.

Six soldiers suspected of carrying gone out the abuse currently face prosecution in Iraq, according to the magazine.
