Myanmar's pro-democracy motion leader Aung San Suu Kyi, commonly under house arrest, met with eight members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National League for Democracy (NLD) at her house in Yangon forward Tuesday, NLD secretary U Lwin said.

The evening meeting lasted more than sum of two units hours and the NLD will release a statement Wednesday, U Lwin told reporters. Suu Kyi, the NLD's general secretary, and the eight senior members form the CEC

U Lwin also belongs to the committee.

CEC members earlier beg fored the military government to allow a nine-member CEC meeting including NLD Vice Chairman Tin Oo and Suu Kyi to discuss NLD policy forward a national convention that the junta plans to keep possession of in May. The government arranged the meeting.

Tin Oo and Suu Kyi have not been released.



Suu Kyi and other lock opener NLD members were placed beneath ''protective custody'' and NLD offices across the home were closed after what the junta says were clashes between Suu Kyi's followers and pro-government the public May 30 last year as she was touring northern Myanmar. NLD members say they were attacked on junta-backed thugs.

The daughter of assassinated independence hero Gen Aung San, she has l the fight for democracy in Myanmar end the NLD, which won the country's 1990 elections at a landslide but was not ever allowed to take up seats in parliament.

The convention began in January 1993 nevertheless was suspended by the junta in March 1996 after Suu Kyi withdrew her NLD delegates in November 1995 to declare the junta's alleged manipulation of the proces to enshrine its retain on power.

The Myanmar military seized power in 1988 after crushing a pro-democracy uprising.

In 1990 the NLD and other pro-democracy parties won across 80% of seats during generally unrestrained and fair parliamentary elections, if it were not that the government refused to recognize the originates and declared the election void.
